Angels, as Aquinas and other Scholastic theologians conceive of them, are purely intellectual substances, minds separated from matter.- by Edward Feser

Morphism, can be characterized as a way beauty evades us from one materialized concept to the other,it has always been how those who seek it,never throwing in the towel in this never ending, treacherous adventure of attaining it.

Before we commence on this journey of discovering the sophisticated elegance and flowery nature of this album we have to address the title of the album and the three long tracks ,i.e, Seraphic Light,to give a miniature related definition, is light that all the chosen(by a divine deity) encounter whether it's a religious one or even an extraterrestrial encounter. What connects this album to this concept is that there is an all pervading/'holy' light that shocks and paralysis the people who come into contact with this light. One could ask what kind of beauty or hold does this light have and how is it pertinent to the soul and vice versa ? The trio have answers for that and do they give clear answers to questions posed.

Seraphic light,as a body of art is about the nature of beauty;Grace to be accurate, it's about petals opening in spring, about how a fog lays on top of mountains, when birds chirp in the morning ,it's about witnessing magnificent sunset everyday without fail, about a perfect world and also about witnessing grace and beauty in it's apex of glory ,gleasening up and staring you/soul directly;perturb will one get.The uneasiness is the process of or end result of the nourishment of the soul, and this is the relation this light and the soul have. This not per se about nature but it is about the source of beauty and its graceful unfolding to us i.e it's about connecting us to that never ending source as it beautiful passes like an eclipse. As the music plays there is a merge that happens between what the music is and what the flesh holds there is a blur that takes place were we no longer see a distinction between the soul and the source, there is a recognition of a oneness between this source and the soul, a completeness only lost when the music ends.

The music the trio meditate on plays on fractured fractals that Daniel Carter builds, while Matthew Shipp add similitude forms, then they are dilated and contracted by both, in the meantime while William Paker holds frames of this abstract miniatures in place.Even when the grouping is a trio we have a diverse offering of sound with thanks to the pre-eminent Carter, who goes from playing the flute, trumpet and saxophones, while the other stay consistent with their respective instrument. On Pakers side there is plucking, bowing and the rattling of his strings against Shipps cluttered and traditional jazz twinkles and bangs;while in Carters corner he makes ambient, somber wails of grieve with his instruments. The music is cerebral, spiritual and is always seeking clarity, while at the same time forging ahead in unison,it knows its limit and where to go.A side note that i cannot figure out were to put and synthesis in this blog post is one by Edward Feser to qoute him he says this about the intellect in relation to his analysis about angels as incorporeal things in his Cartesian Angelism post

"Working out the implications of the idea of a purely incorporeal intellect is useful for understanding the nature of the intellect, the nature of free choice and its relationship to the presence or absence of the body, the nature of time, and other issues too.".-by Edward Feser
I would say there is a very distant echoing relation to this statement and the album and what the trio accomplish is a moving, spiritual album that will have no problem in reaching out to every soul it encounters.
